SEE Mission Statement

Submitted by seeadmin on Sat, 11/18/2006 - 1:20pm.

Name: Sustainable Energy Easthampton (“The SEE Forum”)
Mission: SEE is an open forum committed to making Easthampton, MA ecologically sustainable.
Goals:

  • To develop locally produced renewable energy and reduce emissions.
  • To educate the public and promote renewable energy issues.
  • To build a connected, informed and powerful community to bring about change.

SEE Forum Organization:
Structure: An aggregate of work groups. All that is required to create a new work group is for someone to suggest it and to volunteer to be the point of contact for it. Nothing is required for membership. People can come simply to listen and educate themselves. A person can volunteer to help when inspired to do so. A person can serve on any number of work groups.

  • Minimum members to form a work group: 1
  • Number of work groups an individual can participate in: Any number or none at all.
  • Media contacts: Website and Phone Contacts will be directed to the point of contact for the work group concerned.

Work Group Organization: That will be up to the individual group’s participants to determine. The only output required of the work group is that the point of contact or designee makes a periodic report to the SEE forum as a whole at the meeting.

SEE Forum Mechanics
Every group has certain tasks that must be performed. Volunteers can perform these functions on an ongoing basis until they or the group wishes to make a change.

  1. Webpage Developer: A volunteer(s) to create and administrate the website.
  2. Facilitator: Rotating position- ask for a volunteer to facilitate next meeting.
  3. Record Keeper: Rotating position- ask for volunteer at beginning of meeting.
  4. Spokesperson: A volunteer to field phone calls for the group. Three actions will result:
Request Spokesperson Response
General Information. Who are you? When/where do you meet? Give the requested information
Media or other request for details or a quote regarding a specific project. Refer the caller to that projects point of contact person.
Request for a position statement or quote from the SEE Forum as a whole. Explain that we are a forum and before any statement is released or position taken it must be discussed and agreed upon by the group. Tell them we must discuss it and get back to them with a statement.

SEE Meeting Organization

  • Time will be allotted for announcements for upcoming events and requests for volunteers.
  • Time will be allotted for each work group to use as they see fit. Time allotted based on number of workgroups making reports and any given meeting divided by the time allowed.

SEE Meeting Mechanics
Certain functions must be performed even in a leaderless group. Volunteers at the beginning of the meeting must fill them. They are: Timekeeper, Record Keeper, and Facilitator/Stacker.
